A few years ago, both Mike Rimmer and I were pretty scathing in print about a dreary rehash of some of Graham's back catalogue under the title of "Illuminations". This collection is a totally different animal, not least in the fact that the 16 tracks on offer here are some of the man's best compositions ("Meekness And Majesty", "For This Purpose", "The Servant King", "Lead Me To The Cross"), and whilst not all the tracks feature the definitive Kendrick renditions ("Amazing Love", for instance, isn't the awesome live cut from the 1990 Hosanna! album of the same name), Graham's on top form with the superb "No Scenes Of Stately Majesty", which loses nothing in comparison to Maire Brennan's Celtic reading on the "Millennium Chorus", and the reggae arrangement of "Shout! The Lord Is Risen (The Day Of His Power)" always gives me goosebumps. Kendrick fans will no doubt have all these songs already, but if there isn't an album in your CD rack by arguably the best known English praise and worship songwriter of the last 20 years, this would be a good one to have. And 69 minutes of music means it's excellent value.
