Reviewed by Tom Lennie Hmm - talk about milking it......we've already seen twin pack re-issues of Stoneleigh output as well as 'Best of...' compilations. Now it's the turn of massive three-CD 50-song box-sets. This is volume two in that series (please, no more!) and is full of flowing, anthemic worship songs, many written and performed by the likes of Stuart Townend, Paul Oakley or by various of the Fellingham family. The Stoneleigh recordings certainly capture times of passion and great expectation in UK worship, and that sense is truly enshrined on these discs (a full three hours, 45 minutes worth!). There are undoubtedly some special moments, including a few lesser known songs (such as Steve & Vikki Cook's "You Are The Perfect And Righteous God"), which certainly attracted my attention. Indeed, Louise Fellingham's lead vocal prowess adds atmosphere to almost any worship song she ventures to render! But some of these songs sound a tad too dated to be popular on the play list of most worship lovers in 2005. Personally speaking, for a box-set worship compilation, I'd be wanting to hear more than just the familiar, albeit excellent "Stoneleigh" style. There's also a few songs here I'd rather forget, and besides, true Stoneleigh lovers will most likely own the original recordings. Ultimately, although there are some fine moments, there's not too much here to get worked up about.
