Third Day's 'Christmas Offerings' was a huge success when it was released back in 2006 and this DVD is a live recording of them taking the album on tour. I was fortunate enough to see them earlier this year at the Ol' House of Blues, a pretty intimate venue, just before guitarist Brad Avery left the band. Their live shows are a joy to see, communicating an energy and excitement that isn't present on the albums (not that they are lacking in any respect). Maybe this personal experience of seeing them "live" has slightly tainted my viewing, but to me, despite a superb set list, the performance didn't seem to capture the live atmosphere very well. We all know that Third Day are an excellent band, both live and in the studio, and they are more than capable of performing the songs. However, to me it did feel as if they were going through the motions of performing another night on the tour. For those looking for an alternative take on carols, and for those that were big fans of the 'Christmas Offerings' album, I can recommend this recording. But if you are looking for a definitive live recording of Third Day doing what they do best, I would look to one of their other DVDs.
