As you should know, singerl/pianist Smokie has emerged from Nowheresville, USA, to become a huge-selling gospel superstar. Here, his third CD release, demonstrates why. Short, sharp, succinct bass and guitar notes spit at me making the first track throb with pulsating groove; it characterises the album. The playing is tighter than a cat stuck in a drainpipe. Smokie has assembled fine musicians to play these 12 positive and uplifting songs. What songs they are too, not a dud one among them; stand back once you've lit this CD because it will go off. If anything, this is a better album than his mega-selling 'I Need You Now' debut. The weight of being named number one Gospel Artist of 2003 by Billboard magazine is easily carried on Smokie's shoulders, simply because he is talented, he is gifted and his soulfully languid vocal stylings a joy to listen to. Not only is he all that, Smokie is also a Christian who wants to lift the name of Jesus sky high and furthermore wants to help and encourage you. 'Nothing Without You' does just that, it's an exquisite state-of-the-art gospel experience.
