When in 2005 the veteran Midlands singer/songwriter first announced his intention to make a Christmas album I felt like running for cover. Why on earth, I asked, would Poulton want to join with the Nashville CCM throng in recording renditions of "Hark The Herald", "Silent Night", "In The Bleak Midwinter" and all those yuletide anthems that have ben so relentlessly over recorded down the decades that they cease to have any appeal to a jaded record reviewer like myself? My misgivings were entirely unfounded. Poulton's ability in bringing new rock music life to these venerable carols is consistently enjoyable. The effect of hearing these celebrations of the incarnation transformed with such pulsating rhythmic invention makes me look forward to a future Poulton Christmas gig where no doubt I'll be hearing the maestro's recasting of "Angels From The Realms Of Glory" or "Mary's Boy Child" and joining with the dancing throng.

This being a Christmas cd is like most, bound to come in for
some stick.I have to say i really like it. If youre up for
some festive boppin round the Christmas tree youll like it
too. Paul a kind of hyrid of Larry Norman and Ray Davies of
the Kinks along with a fine band here will have boogying
well into the new year.Youll probably have to get it direct
from Paul now though.
