I'm quoting from the sleeve of this 2002 release: "Denzil Dennis made his first gospel album in 1989 and moved to a new era of his singing career and has not looked back since. He is one of the most listened to gospel artists. His first gospel album was with Cordell Clarke on the VP record label and was a hit in the USA. He made his follow-up album entitled 'Give Thanks' for Jet Star which was also a hit. He has made a further two albums for Gospel House Music. By special demand here are some classic hits." Presumably, these "classic hits" were successes in Jamaica and with West Indian church goers in the USA and Britain. If you've never heard Denzil, he possesses a soulful tenor voice not dissimilar to that of John Holt. But there the similarity with the lovers rock hitmaker ends. Although he is an excellent singer and a reasonable songwriter, as a record producer Denzil is no great shakes and though Cross Rhythms is listing this as a reggae album, the ballads and mid-tempo songs here lack the infectious rhythms of Jamaican music. For this listener this was a seriously dull album.
