There are days I just love this job. There is nothing better for a reviewer than the buzz of hearing exciting new talent. I am tempted to draw comparisons to Jamie Cullen, but hey, Wakefield-based Danny Cope is. Danny Cope! Anyway, Danny plays guitar. This is jazzy, funky with intricate melodies and much more, all topped with Danny's silky, smoky vocals. The songs on 'Month Of Sundays' are full of Scriptural truths without being obvious. Some Christian songwriters are guilty of using little imagination, simply stringing Scriptures together and adding music. None of that with Danny. To quote my 16-year-old daughter, "his words connect with your heart". I love the guitar riffs on "We Love You" but the album exposes Danny's gift from beginning to end. If I have read the sleevenotes correctly Danny seems to have done everything except play drums. On the song "I'll Trust You With Me" Danny sings "to understand that your perfect plan is too vast for my head, I'll trust you with me." I cannot wait to see what lies ahead for this singer/songwriter but for now I will bask in the light of this heart-enriching album.
