Reviewed by Trevor Kirk 15 songs with backing trax included: a good quality resource for harassed Sunday School leaders, or more of the same banalities? Initial scrutiny of the track list is not promising; most of the usual suspects are there: “Jesus Loves Me, This I Know”, “Do Lord”, “We Are Climbing Jacob’s Ladder”, “He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands”; but there’s also some original material, including a rather bizarre pastiche of 1960s Beach Boys music, “Surfin’ F-A-I-T-H”, and when I actually plucked up the courage to play the thing, I was pleasantly surprised by hearing some proper instruments, including steel guitar, fiddle, accordion and string bass, some pretty rocky (and unpredictable) arrangements, and best of all, kids who can actually sing; in fact on “I’ve Got A River Of Life”, they even manage some harmonies. Although I could quibble by saying that some of these songs aren’t really Sunday School songs (“The Heart Of A Child” is something that wouldn’t be out of place on an adult praise album), it’s light years ahead of some of the stuff that we’ve heard.
