The cover of this album from the New Jersey-based rapper shows him standing amidst a bombed out and burning cityscape. But it's the spiritual kind of warfare that is the focus here. Throughout the nine tracks, YP boldly details the battle against the enemy with the likes of "War" (featuring British producer Francois) seeking God's help in defeating demonic spirits whilst "Spartans" hones in on the warrior mentality of Christian spirituality. Whilst this is undeniably heavy stuff in a thematic sense, YP takes a small breather in tracks like "Love Is Life" and "Trust Me" which meditate on God's goodness but, before long, proceedings get back on theme to press home the point that trusting in God has consequences for the believer in the spiritual realm. YP's laidback delivery and a delightfully sample-heavy old school hip-hop backdrop provide the perfect juxtaposition to the serious subject matter and this, along with cameos from artists such as Conceptz, DJ Morph and SOS, 'Warfare' is a thrilling listen.
