As anyone who read Cross Rhythms' feature on the Detroit diva will know, Vanessa is a long time gospel hitmaker and her vocal approach, at times strikingly similar to another soulful Detroiter, Aretha Franklin, takes no prisoners. On the passionately rendered 'Walking Miracle' Vanessa makes it clear she won't let anything stop her. Not the health issues of her children, not marital struggles, and not those who tried to count her out. "I am ready to tell everyone how good God has been to me," explains Armstrong. Themes of encouragement and hope run strong through the 10 superbly-produced tracks of 'Walking Miracle'. Producer Rodney Jerkins introduces Armstrong and the album's theme with the opening title track with straight forward arrangements highlighting Scriptural truths and warm vocals over simple keys. Borne out of the personal experience of her son's diagnosis with MS "Seasons" reminds us of the fact that God has a plan for our lives and features the guest vocals of J Moss. The standout track has to be "So Good To Me" which melds together Armstrong's rich traditional vocals and her contemporary edge.
