I usually take the publicity with a grain of salt, but I have to agree with the claims this album makes for itself. It's subtitled 'Worship songs for children and grown-ups' and it fits the bill. The solid pop stylings and simple biblical themes will resonate across all ages. This grown-up is hooked. An endorsement describes the songs as "biblical, catchy and clever" and I can't argue with that either. Trevor Ranger, based in the West of England, has written or co-written all the songs and it's a fine body of work. The comprehensive lyrics booklet notes the biblical passages on which the songs are based and sometimes this is a combination of Old and New Testament passages, as with the reassuring "With God On Your Side". Parents in particular will be doing their children a big favour by introducing them to the messages in these songs - eg, the soft ballad "Do Not Be Afraid" and the song of gratitude "Thank You Jesus". Ranger is evangelising in a very modern way here and encouraging others to do likewise in the uptempo "Let's Tell The World". Vocalists Sally Cranham, Becky Firth and Doug Walker do full justice to the songs, while producer Paul Burton ensures that the important words are crystal clear and never overwhelmed by the musical backing, which is simple, clear and complementary.
