Whilst the name Tony Brevette may not mean much to younger readers older reggae purists will no doubt have fond memories of the many hits that Tony had in his native Jamaica as one of the founding members of The Melodians between the mid-'60s and mid-'70s. Although reggae music has moved on some distance since the era of The Melodians Tony has chosen to stay true to the original lovers rock style and the presence of guests such as Sly & Robbie and Ansel Collins shows the high esteem in which he is still held. No doubt to many this will sound dated but I'm equally sure that to those who harken back to the times when reggae was more laid back, innocent and not littered with expletives, this stylishly performed album of simple devotional songs will be a real blessing.
