Forgive me, Lord. The phrase "cash-in" was never far from my mind as I gazed with some trepidation at this inlay. Look, I know that ever since Glad sold mega-units, American Christian music labels have been falling over themselves to catch some sales action with acapella albums (and cheap to record too!). But wasn't this one a bit tacky? And having winced at some of the more mawkish outpourings of The Kids Praise Company the thought of a whole album's worth of squeaky voiced warblers without even the jolly backing tracks to add a little musical credibility to the proceedings, made 'A Cappella Kids' the kind of album I'd HIDE from my kids. But my worst fears were unfounded. On some tracks, wise old producer Clifford 'Barney' MacDougall has brought in a couple of hot session singers, Heather and Kirsten Ostrom (catch their tasty dance album on Arcade) which, with their nasal 'little girl' quality, are a perfect match with the kiddywinkers' rhythmic counter rhythms. And kiddy leads Amanda Aquino and Chelsea Hamilton are potential stars of tomorrow. Very nice.
