In America at least Mike Johnson was a key figure in the development of '70s Christian music. Before he went solo with a series of influential albums he formed this Chicago-based band who played Johnson's compositions in a heavily blues-influenced jazz rock style. Although this custom album, released in 1970, didn't sell particularly well it is now considered a classic amongst Jesus music collectors and would cost you an arm and a leg in its original form, so this Retroactive CD re-issue is most welcome. It's full of great things. Try the introductory minute and a half electric guitar jam on the intro of "Third Eye" (which recalls the glories of Stu Heiss' opening solo on Rez's "White Noise"), or the way in which wah-wah and fuzz guitars play together on the opening of "Picture Woman". One song, the jazzy "Would You Believe", was included in Mike's repertoire after he went solo. If you're into psych rock of yesteryear you'll love this gem.
