The heartbreaking soul sound Midlands-based Susanna searches for on this, her second EP, sent my thinking straight to Adele, who is presently enjoying stratospheric success singing in this style. I want to suggest that Susanna sounds nearer to velvety Adele here than she did on her earlier recordings, trying for more than just a touch of soul among the pop. Her voice is never dull here, but as she attempts to feel her lyrics, hoping to communicate them with depth, her manner unfortunately comes over too learned. That she seems to improve with each song is promising; it also keeps the quality well shared across the tracks, since the one I like her voice best on, "Crazy Little Thing", is the least memorable song in the set. The title track opener has a strong groove but this simply isn't the recording to take her to the next level.
