Steve was born to a US military family in Figueras, Spain in 1964 but grew up in the US and is now living in Nice, France. In 1998 he cut his first solo album and this, his second, was released in 2004. It's largely modern worship and with plenty of well executed hooks and some tasty instrumentation hasn't really dated at all. I particularly liked the Hammond on "You Flood My Soul" and the fluid guitar work on "You Changed Everything" and even the brief excursion into rock rap on "He's Coming Soon" works well. Steve's voice is strong too and he confidently handles the lyrics on themes like the Lord's return ("He's Coming Soon") and adoration ("I Worship You") though a romantic song, "Was It Enough", addressed to his wife seems a little out of place on what is ostensibly a worship set. Disregarding that small snag, there's more than enough melodic flair and tidy production here to mean that I for one will be looking forward to Steve's third album, which I understand is to be sung in French and English.
