Premier, rather bravely, predicted that this debut from a 22 year old from Memphis "could be a major rock event of the 1990s". That seems a little OTT, but what you do get is an acoustic orientated album of mainly evangelistic songs with some percussive rock production to give it a bit of bite and variety. Wiggins, who is not averse to a bit of Beale Street busking (how 'street cred' can you get?) has a nicely gnarled rock voice though occasionally his pitching slips a bit. The lyrics are pretty good, managing to be direct and uncomplicated without slipping into mere simplistic hectoring. Hats off to Sparrow for investing in a straight-off-the-streets rocker. We'll have to see about that "major rock event" though. Premier, rather bravely, predicted that this debut from a 22 year old from Memphis "could be a major rock event of the 1990s".
