This album is very reminiscent of early Jesus music prior to the industry taking over! There is a certain naive approach and simplicity in all of this but in these days of corporate image and megabucks promotion, this is a refreshing change. Music and lyrics honour Jesus and stylistically, this is all firmly placed in the early '70s. Harmonies and arrangements are well constructed and the sound of it, although home produced, is clear. Steve has a pleasant voice, everything is in tune and his songs work well. My favourites are the magnificent "The Lord Is My Shepherd" and the gentle folk-like prayer of "Oh I Wanna See". Occasionally the intensity gets deeper on the punchy "Stand Up Man Of God" which reminds me of something Don Francisco might do. You get 13 songs and if you're looking for good old fashioned singer songwriter stuff with blatant Jesus lyrics and a gentle approach, there is much here for you to enjoy. Write to Steve and get him to send you one!
