The latest release from veteran Maori blues-tinged singer/songwriter starts as it means to go on with the first track swinging in with gritty singing and a sense of deep south comfort. Australasia-based Steve's expressive vocals are showcased by guitar that has a feel that would be at home in a blues club in New Orleans. Each of the tracks has its own identity but there are some that outshine the rest. "Toss Me In The Water" tells the story of Jonah with a funky bass line and a chorus that is catchier than the common cold. "The Good Remembers" is hauntingly beautiful and multi-layered with notes from xylophones and a flute. One track "Tenei Au He Tangata" comprises of Maori chanting but doesn't feel misplaced amongst the other songs. The entire album is atmospheric with powerful messages of faith that don't overwhelm but encourages the listener to dwell on them.

Just enjoyed Steve and Ainsley in concert. NZ back roads tour and now enjoying the album. Great humour and great music.
