Where would the American jazz and session musician scene be without the Berklee College of Music? New York City dweller Stacia is one of their many gifted graduates and offers her debut CD single here. "Stand" begins with a lone acoustic guitar riff before her smooth low range vocal enters. But it doesn't stay low for long: she has a versatile and dynamic voice, providing fast moving embellishments in the upper registers and conveying a passion seldom felt in such a relatively young voice. The second track "Hiya" (a Hebrew word for "life") brings a welcome return of '90s acid jazz with a Brand New Heavies flavour. Songwriting and production are also classy. "I have a new determination to be transformed," she sings. She's there! A very promising debut.
