The mention of certain country stars is sure to set off a range war even amongst fans of country music. People either love or hate such as Vernon Oxford (yuk!) or Johnny Cash (yeeeah!) and, we have to say, Slim Whitman. Slim's a veteran now (Portly Whitman?) and his high, pure, penetrating voice can still grab a song and squeeze every drop of emotion out of it. So it's a tailor-made instrument for 20 lovely old traditional country gospel classics that have a timeless charm. The album's recorded in Nashville, so there's a fine band and the best of recording finesse. Slim's five duets with son Byron ("Even Slimmer") Whitman are smooth and effective. So, a good dose of ole Slim, not everyone's pork and beans, but it's well-crafted stuff. Me? Well, being a model Christian reviewer I don't reject or rejoice, it's pleasant listening.

I love Slim Whitman's music... its genuine, heart whole and
straight forward, and he's very much his own man. He is
gives everything to his audience and I can't understand why
such a wonderful entertainer, with this mesmerizing voice,
isn't in the Country Hall of Fame. Give me Slim any day.
