This sister can certainly sing! Back in the '80s Shirley was a member of the soul/funk outfit The Zapp Band (some may remember "More Bounce To The Ounce"!). This CD is billed on the insert as "A banquet at the table of the King of Kings," ie, soul food with the proviso that you "come as you are." The songs are a mixture of praise and encouragement, including "The F.O.G.", a song about living in the favour of God, a song to remind us that we are more than a conqueror through Christ. Musically, the songs are well arranged and the programmed grooves cook nicely with no sign of woodenness, and with the choir backing well. I would say that the music is firmly in the late '90s R&B style so if you don't like that style you had better look elsewhere. As well as the main 10 tracks the CD includes a remix of "The F.O.G." and a live version of "I Love Me Better Than That", as well as some enhanced CD bonus content consisting of a video and some photos.
