The video version of their recent live CD release brings a much needed touch of fulfilment to those wanting to catch the whole Saviour Machine experience. Theatrical imagery is an important part of the show, from the operatic/neoclassical introductory piece through to drummer Jason Heart's crucifixion tableau in "Jesus Christ", but the dramatic element is most evident in vocalist Eric Clayton, the shimmering black robed, heavy silver jewellery and white face paints create a stark and ominous image that would have the Gabriels and Bowies of this world either tipping their hats in respect or ripping their hair out in green-faced envy. Clayton is a gifted frontman who plays the crowd professionally and makes use of a variety of props -white masks, statues, a crucifix, the stars and stripes, a chalice of red wine and, perhaps most vividly, two heavy lengths of chain with which he symbolically binds himself during "A World Alone". The album of the same name has already been reviewed so I risk repeating myself to say that classic tracks from the band's two studio albums are included - "Killer", "Enter The Idol" and the epic "The Stand". An impressive stage set and light show in front of a large, receptive crowd, once again illustrating the way in which European audiences are more open to Christian music. Plenty here for prog rock fans and black-clad goths alike.
