Anyone who has ever experienced personal despair or depression as expressed in many of the Psalms will readily identify with this collection of songs about the sharp edge of life. The outstanding highlight on this album is the opener "He'll Be There" coupling a strong melody with excellent backing support from Ruth Reeve. At first the remainder of the material appears run-of-the-mill but after two or three hearings this reviewer had to admit the songs leave a lasting mark. The lead vocals are admittedly lacking strength, depth and authority at times, especially at the top range while the backing vocals (so strong in the opening song) are patently underemployed for the rest of the material. But still, melody and lyric eventually establish themselves with the listener. A promising debut.
