The West Country's Roo has a pop take on the singer/songwriter format and it jumps right out at you from the opening track "New Day". His voice is smooth, easy to listen to and quite reminiscent of the '80 pop crooners. "Lucky Me" takes a realistic walk through how life is when God is in control - that it is not just the throw of a dice. Roo runs through a whole raft of pop styles from the up tempo dance number ("Closer To You") to the straight ballad ("Little Butterfly") and closing with an instrumental ("The Secret Garden") which starts with a very ethereal touch and ends in an almost rock romp that would not be out of place on a Mike Oldfield album. The songs are well written and sensitively arranged resulting in an album that is gently engaging.
