Connoisseurs of both gospel and R&B will already know that Rance Allen is one of the GREAT voices of the post war years so it's a shame that this storming album never made it onto UK release schedules. It's still possible though to buy it on import (I bought my copy from Dual Edge Direct) and I would recommend it to all whose tastes have been whetted by its plays on UCB Cross Rhythms. When the Rance Allen Group were clocking up R&B hits in the '70s they specialised in doing gospelations of R&B hits of the day. Now they do storming originals with the title cut a joyous exhortation to dance before God. Overall, the attempts to update Rance's sound to '90s R&B grooves and soulful ballads work well while on the slower cuts Rance shows all his old soul power first heard on those Stax Records classics. Throughout his amazing ability to sing in harsh gruffness then leap in bursts of purest falsetto makes for thrilling listening.
