When my daughter first heard this cassette, the name Ron Kenoly leapt to mind. When Dad suggested Lionel Ritchie, a vacant expression spread across the young, 14 year old face. But this minor debate does not, adequately, reflect Eion Greaves' true musical style. As befits a man who is currently top of the 'secular' Guyanese charts, the familiar, infectious West Indian reggae rhythm is never far from the surface. Yet. my daughter is no fool and the Kenoly influence does pop up every now and again. And, herein lies a crucial dilemma for Eion. There is no doubting his passion for the Lord, but I would suggest Eion needs a more consistent style - dare I say identity. The reggae tracks are great fun with that incessant rhythm you either love or hate, but the slow, sentimental tracks intrude and leave the listener a trifle confused. Eion is looking for an opening into the UK. so this may be the ideal opportunity for him to establish his very own musical style and direction. Certainly, the potential is very apparent in this 10-track album. Let's hope the Lord opens the door.
