British songsmith Paul has gained a reputation over time for thought-provoking lyrics mixed with a sense of humor. This album presents a collection of nine songs which demonstrate Paul's skill of connecting with the listener. The opener "Bend" explores our reaction to life's challenges when they come our way. "On The Run" is an encouragement not to let love die. The live favourite "California" in contrast contains great lines bringing a smile to your face, comparing the A38 to the Interstate for example, while a message of being glad where you are underlines it all. Another popular song from concerts, "Four", is included on the album with its longing for the age of trust and simplicity. There is the inclusion of horns and other instruments played by producers Dan and Matt Weeks, especially present on "River" and the previously mentioned "California". This album has grown on me very quickly with its combination of clever lyrics and uplifting feel and is highly recommended.
