Cheshire-based three piece pop team Nu Image have launched with a four-track EP produced by Jim Overton who has done a fine job shaping a contemporary pop sound for the group. Nice vocal harmonies and a bit of an R&B feel for the opening track "Searchin'" soon give way to the poppier title track as Jo and Andi Smikle interact with fellow vocalist Claire Arnold to fine effect. "Endless Blessings" is more chart style pop music which is carefully crafted to support the band's desire to take the Gospel to young people. Finally, "Special" is a slower tune with an uplifting vibe. Lyrically this is straight ahead Christian ministry stuff with an uncompromising approach and Nu Image are to be respected for their desire to reach out to people. Everything here will sound fine pumping out of the speakers at a school gig and the band's funky image places them in the right situation to communicate. So, go Nu Image! GO! Musically, this is a good foundation and an excellent benchmark for the group but for my ears, there isn't enough that really stands out. I look forward to see whether on future releases the trio will be able to add that certain something which will transform their music from something that is good into something truly ear catching.
