Something of a comeback album for the veteran who was one of the first African American singer/songwriters to be marketed as "praise and worship". The vision for his new album is eloquently conveyed in the lyrics of the title track where Chapman enjoins us to "...try and find a quiet place to hear his voice and seek his face." This album is all about closing the door on matters of the world and finding time to move into and then enjoy God's presence. There are 13 tracks (65 minutes) of beautifully presented soul music here (the majority of tracks are penned by Chapman) backed by delightful bass, guitar, keyboard, saxophone and cello parts. A variety of vocalists (male and female) assist Chapman and the result is a very satisfying exploration of closeness to God and an encouragement to spend time with and receive from God. Chapman has been writing and performing in ministry since the late 1970s and has written for many well known artists as well as for himself, and there is a huge element of crafting in what he produces. A high level of intimacy comes with the territory in this musical genre (Chapman is happy to sing softly about "falling in love with Jesus") and some of it may be a little too much for the more traditionally-based worshipper, but the message ("Come and spend some time with me, come away") is a good one and the vehicle conveying it is finely executed.
