Lion Of Judah are a five piece from Brighton who were about to break through big with a Mainstage Big Church Day Out appearance before the pandemic put everything on hold. This fine seven track mini-album, released on 12" vinyl, showcases the group's innate ability to offer up inventive and intuitive slices of pop which tell of the struggles of walking with God. As its title suggests, 'The Antidote' also offers up a message of hope with tracks like "Joy" and "Somebody New" telling of the redemptive power of God in the midst of our trials and failings. Underpinning everything is some supremely savvy pop production and some delightfully poetic lyricism - most notably in the memorable "Open My Eyes" which recounts the last pre-resurrection words of Jesus in stunningly up close fashion - whilst lead vocalist Josh Bannister's anglicised delivery fits the bill perfectly. Only the throwaway "Elim Moments" tagged onto the end of this otherwise accomplished release doesn't quite make the grade.
