Lillian Lilly is probably an unfamiliar name to all but die hard gospel buffs, but she's had loads of music experience as a founding member of, and a principal soloist for, the Mississippi Mass Choir. Her first solo album two years ago made quite a splash, and this second offering aims to build on that success. Blessed with a voice that has enough power to register significantly on the Richter scale, Lillian and guest stars Dorothy Norwood and Vernon Chappell deliver a cookin' set of good old-fashioned gospel music that runs the whole gamut of sub-styles within the genre; call and response, slow shouters, upĀtempo belters, sentimental ballads, and the title track, which is dedicated to Lillian's twin sister Carolyn, who died a few months before the album was recorded. Well up to the usual Malaco standard without being really outstandĀing.
