Originally released as a video back in 1986, 'Face To Face' is an excellent reminder of what made Larry Norman such a potent performer at his peak. Beginning with an acoustic performance of "Song For A Small Circle Of Friends" on an Australian TV show in the '70s, Larry charms in the interview which follows then it switches to live performances from the '80s. For those familiar with the 'Stop This Flight' album and tours of Europe in that era, this film is from that period. There are energetic performances of "Why Don't You Look Into Jesus" and "Stop This Flight" as a leather jacketed Larry does his thing. Recorded in Europe, there's a cool performance of "Woman Of God" and "Messiah" sounds its dramatic best. Having seen him in those days, this brings back familiar and good memories. The fun, snappy, punk version of "Why Should The Devil" is featured here though the sound quality for this short segment isn't very good. There are two performances from 1986 that feature his amazingly haired brother Charlie on bass. "Give It Up" is a rare performance and "Everybody Work" is an early version prior to its expansion to include "Twist And Shout" at Flevo a few years later. There's a moving acoustic performance of "I Hope I'll See You In Heaven" from an American concert where a short haired Larry shares with the crowd. In the end, this is a very pleasing DVD with some excellent performances.
