This German power metal band recall the likes of Iced Earth and Sonata Arctica and up against that sort of heavyweight action, they do not disappoint. 'Another Golden Rage' is an enthralling listen from beginning to end, riffs are heavy yet catchy, solos which will impress even the most critical of listeners fly off the album with a boldness that only can increase the fan-base of this band. Underpinning all of this is some hugely impressive drumming from Jurgen Schrank, driving each track forward with a consistency in power and determination which bears similarity to drummers such as Brent Smedley (Iced Earth) and Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden). Lyrical themes vary from philosophical and religious musings on life in songs such as "In Silence", to the struggle against evil in "Transmigration" and "Shades Of Black", all vocalized with a strong, operatic voice from singer Tobias Althammer bearing resemblance to James LaBrie (Dream Theater) and Matt Barlow (Iced Earth). Musically and lyrically talented, Lanfear are a hugely underrated band who deserve to be up there in the big leagues of metal.
