Between 1972 and 1992, Joel Chernoff and Rick Coghill - aka Lamb - recorded
13 Messianic praise and worship albums. Rick Coghill has since departed, his place taken by Ted Pearce, a Gentile believer with an affinity for Messianic worship. Readers with long memories may remember that CR once wrote about an American rock group called Big Methuselah, whose leader - Ted Pearce - was told he wouldn't secure a deal in Nashville because he was too old and ugly! Ted wrote five of the album's 11 tracks, including the very lovely take on Psalm 23, and the closing track, "Time To Favour Zion". Another standout track for me was "Adonai El Shaddai", whose opening bars sound like a heavily restrained version of Queen's "We Will Rock You". Maybe years of listening to people in multicoloured waistcoats playing violins and singing polka-like choruses have left you with a stereotypical idea of what "Messianic praise and worship" should sound like. If that's the case, Lamb's rock leanings could help break those stereotypes.
