For his debut release preacher and singer Kevin chose to play safe and record this in front of an obviously enthusiastic home church crowd at the Fellowship Baptist Church in Chicago, which let's face it, is no bad place to record a gospel album. Right from the word go Kevin Vasser shows us he is a man possessing powerful vocal chops and throughout this album we are treated to a full range of lively up tempo numbers complete with choir, the odd old favourite, down tempo ballads, sung testimony and every conceivable way that gospel music has ever come up with to stir up an audience. But for me this sounds like a man who is trying too hard to make all the right gospel sounds without ever approaching true originality. Also, some of the material here short of a hook or two. That said, to Kevin's credit this is a debut album. I can think of people who have been around for decades who couldn't even come close to the talent and energy demonstrated here.
