This outfit are not to be confused with the London-based gospel funk pioneers. Instead this is a Norwegian prog rock Kainos, and this album was a favourite of mine despite the fact that the language barrier meant I had no idea what they are singing about. Like After The Fire the band were signed mainstream to CBS Records and the one song on here in English ("Now That I've Found") is pure ATF synth-driven power pop which makes me wonder if they'd checked out their English label mates. This is creative prog with male and female lead vocalists and there are plenty of emotive soundscapes which lean towards jazz. "Tommermann" has a poppy melody and some great flute and another favourite is the bouncy "Reell Frelse" with its anthemic rockier groove. With the combination of pop, rock and jazz influences, this is an album that stretches out its musical boundaries with virtuoso performances and it's not difficult to see why the mainstream wanted to snap them up in 1980.
