I wasn't looking forward to hearing this release. For a start, I'd recently met Jason and found the chaplain of the city of Cambridge, musician and author a thoroughly engaging bloke. So if, as I suspected, this tiny budget effort was terrible I'd have the embarrassing duty of telling all our readers, probably meaning Jason would be miffed with me. Secondly, I reasoned, the concept of making a worship album aimed at two to four year olds was bound to be so inherently naff that it would be the musical equivalent of the Chinese water torture. How wrong I was. The opener "So Much So Much So Much", with its ludicrously catchy refrain ("We have so much so much so much/So much so much so much/So much so much so much so much/To thank God for") with spoken interjections from a "monkey" is captivating and instantly memorable. Also, having children singing on the CD but giving them no accompaniment and making no attempt to turn them into a cutesy choir ensures their ragged renditions of these nursery rhyme-style worship songs are charming rather than cheesy. Jason's touch is so sure he's even daring enough to take on an unsavoury subject few adult songsmiths would tackle ("Let's dig a hole/Let's dig a hole/Let's dig a hole/And put the Devil in"). If you have contact with a pre-schooler you need to search out this mini-album for them.
