Jacques Loussier formed his Play Back Trio in 1959 to interpret the music of JS Bach in a jazz style. The fact that Loussier has sold millions of records over the past 30 odd years with this simple approach has annoyed purists in both the jazz and classical camps. Loussier himself is an excellent pianist, coming to grips with the technicalities of Bach with the greatest of ease. His blend of classical phrasing and technique with swinging arrangements is utterly subversive - and extremely enjoyable. For those of you who love Bach, you might hate this record, but you've got to admire Lousier's cheek and style! For those of you who aren't into Bach here's an excellent way to start, in a light jazz style which should be palatable to almost everybody. Don't take it too seriously! Enjoy.
