Ian Smale, Ishmael to generations of praise partners has abbreviated his name but the musical elements remain the same for the guttural-voiced veteran. Ishmael has taken passages of Scripture, paraphrased them and written simple songs accompanied by very jolly little tunes, easy enough for kids to remember and hum or sing to. And, if they are learning to play the guitar, he's included the chords to help them strum along. He says on the album cover, "I believe that God's word is powerful, that is why I have packed this album with Scripture. As we learn the songs we will be learning the Bible at the same time and once the words are in our memories they will be available for the Holy Spirit to use whenever the time is right." Well, I couldn't agree more. An engaging way to help the kids (and grown ups) to remember the word of God.
