It's safe to say the 56 year old Scot's wealth of experience has done nothing but enhance his ability to write and perform top quality folk tunes. Although on 'Sound & Vision' you'll only hear one voice and one guitar, Ian White has the remarkable knack for making a rich tone out of the six strings throughout the 11 tracks, particularly on "Keep On Keeping On". As well as several new compositions, Ian has thrown a few of his old favourites into the mix, such as "Jonah" and "Philippi" which boast his ability to write catchy melodies with spiritual lyrics. However, this "live" album doesn't quite meet perfection - although his strumming is on the whole excellent, "23rd Psalm" uncharacteristically seems to be ridden with mistakes when he strums open fret. The lack of an audience is also slightly puzzling, making his introductions and interactions feel somewhat redundant. The bonus DVD reinforces the fact that we aren't witnessing a captivating live spectacle, rather a man on a stool in front of a camera, though as a guitarist I did enjoy watching his fingers dance across the fretboard.
