Having long enjoyed the gospel reggae offerings from the USA (Christafari) and even Germany (Heaven Bound) I’ve still been long awaiting something a little more…ahem…authentic. At last its here, reggae gospel, and this set by a Jamaican gospel minister, even if it doesn’t quite have the classic trenchtown riddims of Channel One, at least it has a nice lovers lilt with the opener “God Love Is Our Love” and the reggafication of old hymns like “Nearer My God To Thee” and “Let Your Light Keep Burning”, having the emotive lilt of a walk in Caribbean sunshine. Unfortunately, there is some painful stuff here as well. Once the reggae rhythms are dropped, like on the ballad “He Knew Me” complete with cheesy, demo quality programming, the appeal is almost entirely lost. But with 14 songs you can afford a few clankers and for the housewife end of the reggae market, this definitely has some appeal.
