This is the follow up to Hensley's 'The King Is Coming', which is still selling and doing very well in other parts of the world. If you like 'The King Is Coming', you will love 'My God Is Real'. Produced by Tony Richards for Jet Star, this album has 16 tracks that will keep you rocking and t'ing. Jet Star is known as the No 1 distributor for reggae music in the UK, but in recent years are putting out some really good gospel reggae. If you liked Studio One rhythms of the '70s and '80s then there is plenty on this album. All re-vamped and re-mixed for today's reggae lovers. My only disappointment with the album is the fact that more than half of the tracks are traditional hymns. If you have read any of my previous reviews, or listened to any of my programmes, you will know that I love hymns, but how many different ways can you sing "Old Rugged Cross", "Softly And Tenderly" and "My God Is Real"? Hensley King has a great voice, the music is brill, but we need some good songwriters for today's gospel reggae singers. After making that point, I still prefer the traditional songs to the others on the album. There are many tracks that I love; too many to mention here and if you purchase the album, I am sure will enjoy them too.
