When Swedish singer Hayli was interviewed on Cross Rhythms Rimmerama programme last year it was clearly evident that (a) she was a godly lass going all out for the Kingdom rather than the glittering prizes of pop celebrity and (b) although only launching her career in January 2010 this singer possesses a mature singing talent that would put many pop princesses to shame. In fact Hayli Lindgren's smooth yet expressive voice is perfectly suited to the synth pop arrangements that producer Andy Haldane wrap around her here. I particularly enjoyed the sinuous, mid-tempo "Oxygen" ("I need you like oxygen/Nothing compares to this pure love we're in") and the dance remix of "Superficial World" with its chilling image of a 12 year old girl screaming for her voice to be heard. Occasionally the lyrics come across as rather stilted and fragmentary but clearly Ms Lindgren is a lady with something to say. In an age where so much pop seems intent on sexualising children and expounding banal hedonism it's a delight to find a pop talent singing of healing and purity. Here's hoping this gifted young lady gets the exposure her talent deserves.
