This is the sixth release from the US-based singer/songwriter. Well known in her native San Diego, Eve has won countless awards for her previous releases and live appearances, including accolades from Bob Harris and Chris Isaak. Her deep, powerful voice is reminiscent of Alison Moorer and 'Angels And Eagles' is Americana-tinged country through and through. Whether or not she is an "emotion transducer" as per her release remains to be seen, although I would be confident that she can cut it live, and judging from her website she is on the road a lot. Lyrically the content is not overtly Christian; this is not a worship album as such. What Eve does sing about is a worldly view of life, love and family and how her faith interacts with that. The title track talks about letting her angels fly and is about releasing children to fly on their own; many parents will associate with the sentiment. "She" is a standout track, a cover of the Gram Parsons song retaining the original's '70s country rock feel. The musicians are outstanding on this album, recorded in Nashville, including her writing partner Marc Intravaia and "Cactus" Jim Soldi, who used to play in Johnny Cash's touring band. This is a well realised album that will appeal to anyone that appreciates Americana and solid songwriting.
