A new name on the Christian scene, Disciples Of Groove's Kevin Quinlan has been a professional singer/keyboard player for many years whose pre-Christian album 'Soul Searching' apparently received good reviews and some Radio 1 airplay. Here he has written and produced three songs, sung by himself with three instrumental remixes on the B side. The acid jazz arrangements are good in themselves, but there are too many instruments and musical ideas jostling for position in the mix at times and Kevin's Freak Power voice, though interesting, definitely needs work on pitching the notes accurately. The best song, "Positive Vibe", is successful enough with a good groove for the chorus and a tuneful (live?) bass but as with the others Kevin really needs an outside producer (as do many private recordings, to be fair) to apply some musical restraint, chop out the overdone filter sweeps and concentrate on helping the talent that is there to shine through. But for free, it's a veritable bargain!
