Discarnated are a five-piece Australian outfit who play all-out, no-nonsense death metal, most reminiscent of Living Sacrifice. For those of you fortunate enough to have picked up any of their albums, otherwise in the vein of Deicide or Morbid Angel, though lyrically opposite, this is the kind of stuff you either love or hate. I love it. You have to be a serious metalhead - I am! Drummer Kelvin Sugars (seriously!) and bassist Paul Lienert provide a jackhammer rhythm section for the liquid-fingered guitarists and the gutteral moans of Rowan Harm. The lyrics, though undeniably Christian, are classic gore-filled death metal stuff, depicting sin as "maggots" which "lace my naked corpse" and using song titles like "Misery Guts", "Gutted And Skinned" and "Violate The Grave". On the negative side I found the production a bit weak, with the squealing, dive-bombing solos too far back in the mix and the drums sounding flat as cardboard. Also 14 quid for 27 minutes of mosh is a bit steep chaps.
