So are the ‘80s back in then? Seems like there are a few albums being released these days with those ‘80s influences shining through strongly and this one balances between contemporary boy band pop and classic ‘80s singers like Marc Almond and Boy George. No doubting that Dietrech has vocal and songwriting talent and on his debut recording, producer and instrumentalist Jeeve creates the tracks. Spiritually this is uplifting music but in places it's a little cheesy in the same way that Carman can be cheesy. So you get perfect pop like "I'll Be The One", "The Power" and "Just A Little Prayer" but then there are songs like "Live It For Life" and "The Virgin Son" which err towards the Brie. 'Choir Boy In Denim' has its moments and no doubt that Dietrech has a worthwhile ministry and it's my hope that future recordings will see him consolidating this good start.
