This father and son euphonium-playing duo present here a mixture of hymns and classical works. Both men have impressive musical CVs, Derick with the Salvation Army International Staff Band and Stephen with the Cory Band, and the proof of their musical expertise is laid out here. "Timepiece" for example is a highly complex piece and was one of the first extended duets to be introduced into the Salvation Army, and "Brahms Lullaby" is warmly presented in all its soothing glory. Piano is provided through out by Susan Avison (except "Allegro From Canonic Sonata No 1"), but this is the only supporting instrument. In truth, although beautifully played, 'Brillante' becomes a one dimensional listening experience and the listener's attention begins to wander as the album progresses. There are highlights, such as the lively "Glorious Ventures" and the title track, but there are not enough here to move the album to 'outstanding' status.
