This is a technically demanding recital but is one that will repay our careful attention: the booklet notes are truly useful in this respect. The organ itself is of interest and, again, I would refer those who want to know more to the article by Richard Tanner in the CD booklet where the full tech - spec and history are given. As is only right, the sound quality on the recording is excellent: thank you, Lance Andrews. David Briggs is Organist Emeritus at Gloucester Cathedral and is one of the top concert organists of the day. He studied with Jean Langlais in Paris and transcribed many of the recorded improvisations of Pierre Cochereau of Notre-Dame de Paris. Both composers are included in this collection along with works by Cesar Franck, Jeanne Demessieux and Marcel Dupre. The only piece that is not French is "Symphonie en Improvisation (22 June 2003)" by David Briggs but, as the title says, it sounds French. Any readers with an interest in 20th century organ music will want to hear this CD; those who want an easy-listening hymns of praise recital would best look elsewhere.
